Art Garden: Children’s Season at the Singapore Art Museum

July 2nd Friday. Rainy day. i am glad i discussed with gx before he came back from Shanghai, that he should take at least half a day off from work... the following day after he arrived, he had to submit his report the next morning and he came home late for 2 nites... so afraid he couldnt leave on time but he did. next i was worried about the weather spoiling our family day... glad we went on as planned thou the sky was still crying. We were off to the Singapore Arts Museum.

baby r and i waited under shelter while daddy went to find his parking lot. it was really pouring hard and i was glad we still made it. we paid $10 each and it was free for baby r. the art garden exhibition was in another building next to the SAM. so we had to brave the rain and walked over under our HUGE umbrella, hugging each other and holding onto each other tightly, walking very carefully to get to SAM @ 8Q.

too bad we couldnt get a nice shot of the Gigantic rabbit! it did catch baby r's attention as it was really BIG to her! somehow the rain did give the poor rabbit some mood, adding some touch to the art piece. so tempted to get one of these inflatable rabbit home... too bad it wasnt smiling.... if it was i would have grab one home! Baby r's 1st art exhibition. her 1st art piece - Walter's garden.

We sure hop- in! we were so lucky! when we went into this beautiful room, there were other kiddos and parents. they proceed on after 5mins and i was glad they moved on as the kids were pretty rough, they were throwing the '5-stones' grass at each other.... hazard to my little one! we had the whole exhibit to ourselves and baby r walked all over and she had soooo much fun!!!

she hugged, threw, rolled, kicked the "grass" and she was soooo cute, sooooo busy moving around the room! i was very happy to see gx grin, watching her little one in actioon and i was glad both of them enjoyed the 1st exhibit! no lift.... had to climb.... when we were greeted with the red wall after climbing the stairs.... i had to stop to take a shot!

the next exhibit was daddy and my least favourite.

they had some animation shown on the walls but somehow it didnt capture our attention.

i loved the daisies!!! way cool! LOVE IT! we walked into a dark room and saw a rectangle, filled with daisies, projected on the floor. kids were running about and the path the kids ran would erase the daisies. after awhile the daisies would reappear! fascinating! really cool! baby r wasnt afraid when we entered the dark room, she got drawn to the running kids and she was looking at how the daisies disappeared and she smiled when the daisies reappeared!

again we were super lucky to have the whole room to ourselves twice!

gx had a great idea when we had the whole room to ourselves the 2nd time! he suggested that we held hands and run across from one end to the other end! i carried baby r with one hand and  my other hand held onto gx's hand and we ran across the room and the whole room went pitch black! when we turned around, it was so a lovely sight to see the daisies appearing all the way from the other end towards us and we all smiled! we did a 2nd time and gx had the camera ready and we ran across the room and he captured the magical moment on camera!

way cool and baby R love dashing across the room with us!

in the same room, another corner, there was another interactive exhibit, Funky forest. i didnt really like this as much as Daisies. its still interesting, esp the waterfall... when the water falls and spread on the floor, when the water "touches" you, it would spread out and avoid where you are standing!

The Enchanted Forest is our family favourite!

when i stepped in and saw the Enchated Forest... i was taken away! as i stepped into the artwork, i was really brought into another land, somewhere enchanted! there was sooo much happening in this forest and we took many shots but we didnt seemed to get enough of it, so much to see and to discover!

there were paintings of the tropical forest of orang utans and tiger. trees, branches, mushrooms and it was sooo colourful! love that the floor was painted too! there was a big bad wolf in granny's PJ reading to little rabbits and squirrels! weird but i love how the pictures flowed somehow! from nature to fairtales!

baby R loves it and she kept walking about on her own in the Enchanted Forest!

in the middle of the art area stands two 3d trees! baby r was good at looking out for the tree roots, avoiding falling over them! so glad she could walk on her own! so glad she steadied her walking before we came for this outing!

we were very lucky again to have the whole area to ourselves for almost 15mins!

baby r had alot of expression as she explored the forest!

we spent a long time in this exhibit! while baby r explore on her own for awhile, daddy took some pics for me! at first when we had to pay $20 for our entry... i was so afraid gx would not want to go on... cos on Fridays, the SAM is opened for free after 6pm.... we were there at 4.30pm. Paying for it was worth while as we had so much fun on our own for every exhibit that we loved! we took so many photos without anyone blocking us!

spending the $20 was worth it, in exchanged we had quality family time in a special way! priceless memory!

Floribots was an eyeopener too! it showed how origami flowers bloomed on its own! the colour of the potted plants were so soothing and we were all fascinated with the movement of this art piece! baby r kept her eyes on the plants!

at the end of the exhibit room was a wall of colourful origami colour-paper flowers! very pretty when the whole wall was filled with the paper flowers! when we took family shots, again we were the only ones in the room! there is always an art corner for kids in some of the exhibit but as baby R is too young and we tried to beat the 6pm crowd, we never stopped to do any of the craft.

Moving Image Gallery, they play short films. it was dark and no shows were aired when we walked in.

we were back to the ground fall and yes we did hop-in to the very 1st exhibit and baby r grabbed onto the "grass" but we left after rowdy kids rushed into the room and it was 6pm, lots more people started walking in. we left and went back to Dome at SAM for a rest.

we had dinner appointment, so we ordered vietnamese spring roll to snack on.

on Fridays, the museum is closed at a later time and we were early for our dinner meet up, so we took a short walk at SAM. we went into one exhibition hall and there were things for people to do. baby r and i were happily stamping away on the provided white paper, the 12 chinese zodiac signs. these were the ancient signs of the 12 animals! after some fun in this interactive corner, we left SAM.
